The Master Plan of Discipleship
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (November, 1998)
Author: Robert E. Coleman
Average review score:

Good, but faulty in some places
This book offered a helpful explanation of what true discipleship is, gleaning heavily from the Biblical account of the apostles from the book of Acts. Practical tips are interweaved with Scriptural theory for a useful book.

Mr. Coleman's style throughout, however, is frequently rather tedious and difficult to read. It lacks enthusiasm for the task of discipleship, and its dry, intellectual style does not immediately motivate you to go out and disciple the nations. This is not necessarily a bad thing - it's just not what I expected from a book marketing itself toward ordinary lay people. I find it curious that it's become a bestseller.

I also had some fairly significant theological problems with certain portions of the book, but I know it's not supposed to be some major treatise. Just be careful when reading.

Bottom Line: good material on discipleship, but nothing that will wow you with verbal fireworks or flawless theology. Read it if you must. And even then, only once.

God's plan to win the world
A tiny but powerful insight into God's plan to win the world in one generation. This is a very consisely written scriptural commentary on God's plan for evangelism. A call to complete committment for every "christian" to be a disciple. An equalizing of the work of evangelism to every christian, not just the clergy. Every Christian must be committed to the scriptural teaching of disciplship....each one teaching one.

Use the chapter subtitles
Get a copy of this book and write down all the chapter subtitles. If you live out the intentions they address you will master biblical discipleship and leadership. As it happens, Coleman outlines the differences between motivating teams, coaching, mentoring, and discipling - though he never seems to mention it.

This book follows The Master Plan of Evangelism in attempting something profoundly readable and practical. That it is not quite as successful is unfortunate, because the "doing" and "being" of leadership longs for something just so profound.

101 Great Dates
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (August, 1995)
Authors: David D. Coleman and Diane J. Coleman
Average review score:

I struggle to find any good things to say...
{What follows is my explanation for such a "high" 3 point rating} Perhaps because I was looking for realistic dating ideas instead of fanciful, corny and old-fashioned suggestions do I feel so negatively about this book--the fact that these two authors got this published is worth one rating point. If you've been dating someone for a long time who you know is comfortable with being wacky and can put up with nonsense, maybe, just maybe, you might be able to cull one or two useable ideas from this travesty of "information" (okay, maybe this is worth one rating point). The brainstorming list at the end of the 101 "great" ideas is actually better than the 101 features that precede it and might be of some use, even though its actually restated generalizations of the specific, ridiculous 101 (it's a stretch, but there's the explanation for the third and final rating point that I gave it). [Want an example? Here are some headings from the 101: "Who, Me...Juggle?", "College Campus Visit" and "Parental/Grandparental Double Date" (it even says if you're lucky they might pick up the tab - how nice).]

Dating ideas & thoughts on relationships abound!
I found this book to be refreshing and easy-to-read. To make a date successful, you have to get a little creative and spontaneous at times. An example given in the book: Have your own drive-in movie by putting a TV/VCR on your hood. Park in the driveway (or wherever),pop some popcorn and have a good time. Dave and Diane also interject some useful and hilarious information throughout. Check out the pick-up lines, especially! I'm going to keep this book on my living room table to pick up the next time I revert to my old, boring dating habits!

Cosmic Retribution: The Infernal Art of Joe Coleman
Published in Paperback by Fantagraphics Books (March, 1993)
Author: Joe Coleman

I've seen better "art" in truck stop bathrooms
I'm sorry but this book was awful. I tried to at least read it even though I was mostly interested in the art, but I couldn't even do that. It was a huge let down and not at all "an artist no horror fan can afford to miss" like the editorial put it. I'm just thankful for ebay so I didn't lose all my money on it:)

art for the unwashed
The art in this book rocks. It's a very inexpensive voyage through the twisted underbelly of american psychosis. The artist has incredible technique to add to the over the top subject matter.

Mama Knows Best: African-American Wives' Tales, Myths, and Remedies for Mothers and Mothers-To-Be
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (June, 1997)
Author: Chrisena Coleman

Disappointed in the breastfeeding advice to other sisters
Breastfeeding is an important part of our African heritage, in Africa babies thrive on their mothers milk. In the U.S. we have the highest infant mortality rate, sadly; in this "modern" nation. Breast milk can never be manufactured nor replaced. I was disappointed in the authors lack of encouragement toward breastfeeding especially since women of color could benefit their entire race through breastfeeding. Breastfeeding saves lives and it's healing properties are beneficial to both baby and mother. (prevention of caner in mom, prevantion of serious illness in babies-toddlers) Breastfeeding is the natural progression of mothering after pregnancy.Though time consuming it may be (as the author states), what other time are we going to have in our lives to devote to our children? When we are old and grey we should look back on those nursing moments with pleasure, but many mom's never get that pleasure. Regretably these mothers and their babies are missing out on a lifetime of mutual benefits that breastfeeding brings. Personally I have found breastfeeding to be both convenient and preferrable vs. formula feeding. It's always warm, ready and up high where the cats can't get to it.

AS A PREGNANT WOMAN, I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK.
THIS BOOK COULDN'T HAVE BEEN WRITTEN AT A BETTER TIME. I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST CHILD AND OFTEN REFERRED TO IT FOR FUN, AND WHEN I EXPERIENCED CERTAIN AILMENTS, CRAVINGS, AND SYMPTOMS DURING PREGNANCY.

THE BOOK WAS VERY WELL WRITTEN. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO READ ABOUT THE MANY MYTHS/WIVES TALES PASSED ON BY AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. I PURCHASED SEVERAL COPIES AND GAVE THEM AS GIFTS TO FRIENDS WHO WERE ALSO EXPECTING.

I CAN'T WAIT TO FOR CHRIS' NEXT BOOK TO HIT THE SHELVES. I'M SURE IT TOO WILL BE MOST ENJOYABLE TO READ.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK COLEMAN!

I LUV YA'!

McCartney Yesterday & Today
Published in Audio Cassette by Dove Books Audio (September, 1996)
Authors: Ray Coleman, Paul McCartney, and Ian Ruskin
Average review score:

A Disappointment
After reading other Coleman books I expected to read something new and informative about Paul McCartney. Instead I was spoonfed a repetitive and boring story of the development of the song "Yesterday". Pass on this one - it's definitely not worth the money.

Interesting & Informative, But Not Unbiased
As with all of Ray Coleman's books, this one is accurate and informative, but somewhat irritating in its obvious adoration of McCartney. Still a definitive account of the history of one of the most famous songs of all time. Also, it includes a comprehensive account of how Paul McCartney lost the chance to get the rights to the Lennon/McCartney songs when he was outbid by a former collaborator, Michael Jackson. A must-read for any Beatles fan, for this information if for nothing else.

One World Order: Socialist Dictatorship
Published in Paperback by Bridger House Pub (October, 1998)
Author: John Coleman
Average review score:

"POOR SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE BY THE AUTHOR"
In John Coleman`s book The Committee of 300, his publisher has book advertisements for some occultic topics; the worst being Nostradamus. Nostradamus constantly used astrology,as verified in his book preface in "The Centuries". If a reader wants to know more about whats going on,by a Christian source, might I recomend Dennis L. Cuddy`s book" Secret Records Revealed ",or Joan Veon books. Both very strong Christian authors.

Dr. John Coleman books
More than anything---Americans suffer from a lack of knowledge about what's going on in our world. If you think you are aware by watching from a US news media standpoint, you'd better think again! There is no hope of catching up without some very basic books. These include all of Dr. John Coleman's series: One World Order, Committee of 300, Diplomacy by Deception and What you need to know about the Constitution. He lays the best foundation to begin your quest for information. Most of the popular writers and seekers of truth have taken no small share of developments originally presented by Coleman. But here is the original deal. You don't need to accept substitutes.

I recommend that everyone read this book and all the others because there has never been a need for facts, as great as the need we face today and we are very quickly running out of time to do anything about these events. Therefore, it's very important to know where to look for answers. John Coleman was an insider (British MI6) who was shocked by events he uncovered as an intelligence officer. He has dedicated his life to exposing his knowledge of events most Americans are simply unaware happened. His research is impeccable. I sincerely doubt that the last reviewer even read this book. Those who don't want the truth to be known would really hate this book. Unfortunately, there are quite a few folks out there that would like to remain blissfully ignorant. To each his own...This is a book that belongs in your special library of valuable non-fiction. Again, it lays a basic foundation and unique perspective on world events. The knowledge you will gain is one that explains the necessary details, you need to know because they have a direct impact on current events. This book will give you a much better perspective. So, don't just sit there, buy it....

One, Two, Three, Oops!
Published in Hardcover by Little Tiger Pr (January, 1999)
Authors: Michael Coleman and Gwyneth Williamson
Average review score:

We didn't enjoy it
Another one of those books that you dread reading to your kids. Fortunately, my kids didn't enjoy it, so I only had to read it once. Illustrations are so-so.

Hiliarously Funny Counting Book!
I totally DISAGREE with the other reviewer! I bought this book for my nephew's 4th Birthday, and every time I read this book to him, he would crack up laughing! I think it was the "noggin-sploggin" part that did it to him. Haha! After reading the story to him only twice, he began to do the counting with me. Now, 6 years old, he recently told me that One Two Three Oops! is one of his all-time favorite stories! I've decided to buy it for another nephew for Christmas! Check it out ... you WON'T be disappointed!

Plays Children Love: A Treasury of Contemporary & Classic Plays for Children
Published in Paperback by St. Martin's Press (January, 1993)
Authors: Coleman A. Jennings, Aurand Harris, and Carol Channing
Average review score:

N ot impressed
Disappointing. Only a small portion of the book is devoted to plays that children can perform themselves. The handful of plays in this section provide a good example of the multiculturism fad in kids' books these days. The plays are identified as coming from several different countries. But this supposedly diverse group of plays is uniformly unentertaining, with little or no educational content.

A Great Resource for Staging Plays with Kids
This collection provides a good mix of large and small group plays, including The Wizard of Oz, Treasure Island and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It might not be great theater, but it gave the elementary school kids I was working with a chance to perform a familiar story without a million rehearsals. The lines are manageable and the kids weren't put off by having to learn long speeches.

Text With Study Guide for use with Behavioral Statistics
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (01 February, 1994)
Authors: Haber Coleman, Richard P. Runyon, Kay A. Coleman, and Audrey Haber
Average review score:

Behavioral Statistics
If you have to buy this as part of a class, ask the professor to choose another book. This book is full of typographical errors (a problem when learning and using formulas), and also computational errors (in both this book and the accompanying study guide). The language is also either confusing or oversimplified, depending on which chapter you are reading.

It gives only the VERY, VERY basest of knowledge regarding statistics; it serves best as a rarely referred to supplement to other stats books.

An elegant portrayal of statistical concepts
How did I get through Yale without this easy to read guide? Instead of lists of tables that blur into numerical randomness, this book turns areas under the curve into crisp visual images!

Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering
Published in Paperback by Butterworth-Heinemann (29 November, 1996)
Author: Coleman A. O'Flaherty
Average review score:

Great Britain's transportation systems planning.
While the book may have a great deal of useful information regarding transportation planning, it is written about Great Britain's roads and other public transport and so has limited utility in a non-British transportation context. Formulas are in kilometers, designs are for left-hand driving, etc.

A Good Piece of Textbook
This book is a very good textbook which outlines all essentials and principles of transport planning and policy, with examples and illustration. There is one minor de-merit which the book is too concentrate on United Kingdom situation. However, I would still say that this book is very useful for students who need to understand the transportation and traffice engineering principles.
